National Cargo Bureau, Inc. is regularly appointed by various clients to conduct inspections of radioactive cargoes which are subject to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and 49CFR (US Hazardous Materials Regulations) This service is offered with respect to carriage by vessel.

These include, in addition to standard hazardous container inspections:

  • Conducting a Radiation Level Inspection of each package or container in accordance with National and International standards using properly calibrated monitoring equipment. Calibration certificates are available.
  • Verifying labels and placards are correctly applied in accordance with the regulations.
  • Conducting Radiation Level Inspections on board vessels to verify stowage of radioactive materials is suitable for the vessel and intended voyage.
  • Assisting clients in obtaining Port Permits when required.
  • Conducting pre-packing Serviceability Inspections of Containers
  • Verifying assigned container is suitable for the explosive and intended stowage location
  • Assisting clients in obtaining Port Permits when required
  • Liaising with US Coast Guard Explosive Supervisory Details when the specific explosive requires such supervision
