The National Cargo Bureau (NCB) – a US inspection body authorized to certify compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations – has appointed Mike Durkin to the position of Chief Information Officer of the NCB Group, in addition to Director at Exis Technologies. This newly formed role is effective immediately. Mike will be responsible for the IT strategy across the group comprising NCB and their IT division, Exis Technologies. Exis, based in the UK, was purchased by NCB in April 2018 and has been a leader in the development of IT systems for the management of dangerous goods in sea transport for 35 years.

Mike who was previously Operations Manager at Exis for four years said, “I am delighted to have been appointed CIO of the NCB Group. We look forward to our continued use of innovative technology to make container transport a safer place.”

Exis Technologies and NCB have been working on several new initiatives to help improve safety in the supply chain including Hazcheck Detect, a cargo screening solution to identify misdeclared and undeclared dangerous goods (DG) prior to loading and Hazcheck Inspections, a container inspection system. Exis provides the IT and systems expertise to help deliver tools to help ensure the safe transport by sea of dangerous goods.

Ian J Lennard, President of NCB said, “2022 marks 4 years since Exis Technologies joined forces with the National Cargo Bureau, and during this period the synergy between the two organizations has brought new and different capabilities to the NCB safety portfolio. The acquisition of Exis was a natural fit and has significantly enhanced NCB’s Dangerous Goods service offerings globally. In the continuation of that advancement, Mike has been appointed to ensure that information technology adds maximum value to the achievement of our not-for-profit mission of SAFETY OF LIFE AND CARGO AT SEA .
